Hygienic, Versatile, and Durable Containers: Saeplast’s Perfect Solution for CIAL

Hygienic, Versatile, and Durable Containers: Saeplast’s Perfect Solution for CIAL

When CIAL, one of Chile’s leading meat processing companies, sought to enhance its raw material handling operations, it discovered an ideal partner in Saeplast and its PE line of containers.

Challenges with Previous Containers

Diego Fortuzzi, Head of Processes at CIAL, outlined several significant issues with their older container systems:

  • Stainless Steel Containers: These were excessively heavy, difficult to maneuver, caused damage to floors and walls, posed safety risks for workers, and were challenging to clean.
  • Polyurethane-Filled Plastic Containers: Prone to breakage, these containers retained water within their walls, creating contamination hazards.
  • Injection Molded Plastic Containers: These lacked resistance to cold temperatures, leading to frequent cracking and tearing, which posed significant food safety risks. Cleaning and sanitizing them was also labor-intensive.

These limitations drove CIAL to seek a durable, safe, and sustainable solution that could meet their rigorous operational needs.

Prioritizing Safety and Sustainability

CIAL’s requirements for new containers included:

  • The ability to withstand daily forklift use.
  • Food-grade plastic certified for international markets.
  • Ease of manual and mechanical handling.
  • Simplified cleaning and maintenance processes.
  • Alignment with sustainability goals to reduce environmental impact.

The Saeplast solution

Mario Diaz from Saeplast recommended their triple-wall PE containers, constructed from robust polyethylene using high-quality resin. These containers provided a game-changing solution for CIAL with the following advantages:

Durability: Designed to withstand heavy daily use, the containers have proven resistant to forklift impacts, with zero breakages reported over years of operation.

Efficiency: Cleaning is significantly faster and easier, requiring only one person and less than five minutes per container.

Food Safety: The certified resin used in the containers ensures the highest levels of safety for end consumers.

Sustainability: The transition to these containers eliminated the need for disposable plastic bags, furthering CIAL’s environmental objectives.

Initially adopted for handling fresh raw materials, these versatile containers are now used for frozen, fresh, and semi-processed products, demonstrating their adaptability to various applications.

A Partnership Built on Innovation

CIAL’s collaboration with Saeplast began with the introduction of 200-liter meat carts, which replaced cumbersome and unsafe steel carts. Saeplast’s triple-wall polyethylene carts improved operator safety, streamlined workflows, and reduced damage to facility floors and walls.

This longstanding partnership showcases the enduring value of Saeplast’s innovative container solutions. By addressing the needs of industrial operations with durable, hygienic, and sustainable systems, Saeplast continues to support CIAL’s success in the meat processing industry.
