Located in Cap-Pelé, New Brunswick, Adrice Cormier Ltd. stands as one of Canada’s most esteemed and longstanding suppliers of seafood bait and smoked herring. Founded in the world's herring capital, this family business has thrived through four generations. From its beginnings with founder and great-grandfather Patrick to being named for son and grandfather Adrice, then Father Richard, the company is now run by brothers Jeremy and Mathieu Cormier.
Today, Adrice Cormier Ltd. serves fishermen across Atlantic Canada with their bait needs and markets its smoked fish primarily to Haitian and Jamaican markets.
As per Jeremie Cormier, “My great-grandfather Patrick started out as a farmer and a fish smoker with one smoke house behind his house. He passed that on my grandfather Adrice.
One year during a particularly tough fall farming season in which his storage crop lost, he went out and rented all the smoke houses that were available that spring. Despite the demanding work and long hours, he managed to fill the quota’s for each smoke house and sold all of the fish he caught.
This opportunity allowed him to move away from farming and into the fishing industry in Cap-Pele. As each season went on, he bought and filled more quotas, creating the foundation of what Adrice Cormier Ltd. is today.
Four generations later, my brother (Mathieu) and I are very proud of the legacy we have taken over. We are now one of the largest producers in the region, major employers in Cap-Pele, and ship our product worldwide.”
Upon entering the premises of Adrice Cormier Ltd., visitors are struck by the emphasis on quality and branding. The clean, modern facilities, punctuated by the multicolored Adrice Cormier Ltd. sign, highlight the company's professionalism. Their offices blend traditional decor with contemporary design, reflecting the company's commitment to maintaining high standards.
In line with their brand's growth, Adrice Cormier Ltd. has partnered with Saeplast to ensure their containers are branded consistently. The Adrice Cormier logo, a symbol of their identity and values, enhances brand recognition and fosters trust among consumers. A well-designed logo not only distinguishes their products from competitors but also builds a strong emotional connection with customers, reinforcing brand loyalty and visibility across various platforms.
According to Saeplast’s Mark Crandall, North American Sales Supervisor for the Fish & Seafood Segment,
“I had worked extensively with Jeremie and Mathieu on bringing their magnificent multicolored Mold-In Graphic to life on our beautiful blue-green (light blue) Saeplast DXS335’s and D1000’s models. This was by far the nicest logo to date, featuring a circular design surrounded by herring with a yellow star and the blue, white, and red of the Acadian Flag – quite spectacular.
For years, Adrice had spray-painted 'A and C' down the sides of their boxes to indicate ownership. This new logo would now tell the world who these boxes belonged to as they traveled down the highway, boxes strapped down with the Acadian Flag and Adrice Cormier Ltd. on full display!
Normally, when an order like this is done, I like to meet the truck upon delivery to take pictures and see reactions. I was excited for this one, the prettiest Mold-In Graphic to date! Unfortunately, I was about 35 minutes late to the plant. When I arrived, half of the truck had been unloaded, and two employees were spray-painting 'A and C' on the corners of the new boxes as identifiers.
I ran over as fast as I could (5’6, 230 lbs, so it was not a 'fast' run) and cried, 'What are you doing?' I’ve never raised my voice at a partner before, but they were desecrating brand new boxes!
After much work and convincing, the practice of further identifying boxes with spray-painted 'AC' is no longer used, and I am no longer growling at customers!
So, when you see the herring-wrapped Acadian flag driving down the highway on a flatbed in beautiful light blue boxes full of Atlantic Canadian product, you can either think of the importance of commitment to quality and branding capabilities or the traveling salesman who has no problem growling at your employees!”
